The Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has recently introduced a new cultural support policy, effective January 1st, 2025, to encourage cultural activities with financial support and focus on public welfare and brand-building initiatives.

For cultural activities, such as themed cultural and creative events, film exhibitions, stage art performances, original literary and artistic showcases, cultural art exhibitions, and stage art competitions, eligible projects can receive funding of up to 3 million RMB.

Another focus of the policy is to support Macao-branded cultural events to expand to Hengqin. Cultural events that have received non-repayable funding from the Macao SAR government within the past three years are eligible for matching funding on a 1:1 ratio. For events held in Macao at least three times within the past ten years, up to 50% of the actual costs incurred in Hengqin can be subsidized, capped at 1 million RMB annually.

To further encourage public participation in building cultural facilities, grants of up to 2 million RMB are available for establishing performance-related cultural venues, exhibition spaces, and bookstores within the island.

Additionally, non-governmental organizations and art groups representing Hengqin in cultural activities or competitions, as well as residents or students from the island who win cultural awards, are eligible for annual grants of up to 500,000 RMB.

A detailed application guide will be released soon for 2025 activities, with eligible projects undergoing expert evaluations before inclusion in the annual funding plan.
